Get set up to take payments

Written for:League admins

Kordnate does not hold your money. Stripe does, and Stripe pays it into your bank account. That is why you have to set Stripe up before anyone can pay you.

  1. Open Billing in the sidebar.
  2. Choose Connect Stripe.
  3. You will land on Stripe’s own site. Fill in the league’s legal name, address, and bank account.
  4. You will be asked to prove who you are. Have a photo of your ID ready.
  5. When Stripe is done it sends you back to Kordnate.

Do this before you open sign-ups. Families who hit a payment page that is not connected yet do not come back and try again.

Stripe has your details and is checking them. Most take minutes. Some take a few days, and a few need a document you have not sent yet.

While it says pending:

  • You can open sign-ups and take payments.
  • You cannot get paid out. The money sits with Stripe until it clears.

Check Stripe’s own dashboard for what it is waiting on. Kordnate only shows the status; it cannot see the missing document.

A hold is Stripe’s, not Kordnate’s. The usual reasons:

  • Your first payout. Stripe holds it 7 to 14 days for a new account. This is normal and clears on its own.
  • Something to verify. See above.
  • A dispute. A family told their bank they did not authorise the payment. Stripe holds enough to cover it until it is settled.

Worked example. Your registration window closes on 1 March and you have taken $4,200. You connected Stripe on 26 February, so this is your first payout. Stripe’s 7-day hold means the first money lands about 8 March, not 2 March. If you owe a facility $1,500 on 3 March, you need to cover it another way. Connect Stripe a month before you open sign-ups and this never comes up.

I need to change the bank account mid-season

You can, and the league keeps running while you do it. But:

  • Change it in Stripe, not in Kordnate. Kordnate does not store your bank details and cannot change them for you.
  • Payouts already on their way still go to the old account.
  • Stripe may re-verify, which can put the next payout on hold for a few days.

Do it in a quiet week, not the week a registration window closes.

What Kordnate charges, and what Stripe charges

TODO — product owner to confirm the fee wording so it matches the pricing page exactly.

  • Connecting a personal bank account to a league that files as a non-profit. Stripe’s checks will fail and you will not know why for a week.
  • Two people connecting two different Stripe accounts. Only the most recent one is used, and money that went to the other is hard to trace.
